Fleetwood Wednesday Academy Squad Vs Spalding United

Fleetwood Academy Vs Spalding United

Result : 3 - 1

Football Conference Youth Alliance

Fleetwood Academy side win three in three and go top of the FCYA league with a 3 - 1 victory over visitors Spalding United. A number of changes to the side allowed players to showcase themselves in readiness for the up coming FA Youth fixture.

The Fleetwood youngsters started bright and passed the ball well with purpose, this was rewarded in the third minute when Tanser met a cross from the right wing and slotted the ball home past the diving keeper.  Town continued to dominate the game with some good passages of play and positive moments creating scoring opportunities which where not converted.  The Town rear guard were not put under much pressure but did deal with what was placed onto them, with both Duggan and Roskell nullifying any threats. The 1 - 0 lead lasted till the final minute of the first half, when Dell who had been causing problem for the visitors left back, went past him and with a looping cross found the far corner to score his first goal of the season after finishing leading scorer last year.

The second half continued as the first with Town being guilty of missing golden opportunities to increase their lead. The visiting keeper being tested from a number of town players. It was not till the 88 minute and a piece of individual skill from Thompson rounding three defenders and slotting the ball into the net that the score line increased to three.  The visitors had minimal opportunities to score, this was done to the strength of defending from Fleetwood and it wasn't till the 93 minute and the last kick of the game that a wonder strike from 25 yards beat Mainwaring into his top left hand corner.

Another good performance from the young players, showing the confidence to keep the ball and be patient when in possession. All the players are fighting for positions in the forthcoming FA Youth fixture and performances today will give the management team tough decisions to make.

Man of the Match : This goes to Philip Roskell for a cool and composed game in the heart of defence.
