Fleetwood Wednesday Academy Squad Vs MMU Newcastle

Fleetwood Academy Vs MMU Newcastle
Result : 2 - 1

Football Conference Youth Alliance

Fleetwood started their Academy season with a 2 - 1 win at AFC Blackpool ground. The visitors were MMU Newcastle from Manchester. Before the game the strong winds looked as though they would cause problems and effect the playing style of the young Fleetwood players. Throughout the game all the players adapted to the conditions well. The game kicked off and for the first 15 minutes Fleetwood allowed their oppositions to play football before putting a foothold on the game. When the young Fleetwood players kept the ball on the floor and created some good passing movements, one of which ended in a great save from the visiting keeper denying Kyle Bennett his first goal of the season. Bennett had to be substituted with minutes of the first half remaining with an injury and was replaced by Josh Few.

The pace of both Tanser and Dell created opportunities from both flanks. Dell coasting passed defenders and being fouled inside the area, only to be denied a penalty by the assistant referee who indicated the foul was committed outside the box. Making the keeper save from the resulting free kick. The stalemate went on to half time where the coaching staff were able to discuss tactical issues with the squad.

Fleetwood started the second half much brighter and with 2 minutes gone Dell again should his threat down the wing and cutting inside again was fouled this time well inside the area. From the resulting penalty Sam Christensen stepped up to calmly convert down to the keepers left.

This pressure from the wide men continued and 15 minutes later a crossed ball from the right was handled in the area, resulting in Towns second penalty. This time Christensen fired the ball low into the bottom corner to the keepers right giving him no chance.

The visitors made a change and got back into the game creating some opportunities of their own. Gaining a corner, they worked a well rehearsed set play resulting in a free header and a deserved goal. This spurred Town on and with Dell again down the right gaining a free kick which was taken early by Vivian produced a fine save from a close range header from Liam Wynn.

Man of the match for his two goals and a composed game in the heart of defense was Sam Christensen.
