Fleetwood Sunday Academy Squad Vs Charnock Richards

Fleetwood Town Under 18’s 11    v Charnock Richard YFC  0

Lancashire Evening Post Syndicate Cup 1st Round

Fleetwood Town Under 18’s started the new campaign in style with an excellent performance against opposition from the Premier Division. All the hard work in pre season was there for all to see.
With a new management team, a new home ground and a team made up predominantly of 1st year scholars they gave a display that epitomises everything that Fleetwood Town are striving to achieve with the youth team players.
From the kick off town took control of the game with team captain Jake Salisbury and Mick McAlpine dominating the Midfield. The strike partnership of Tyler Atack and Josh Walker worked hard to create chances and with only ten minutes on the clock town were rewarded with a penalty. McAlpine stepped up and coolly slotted the ball home.
It was Mick McAlpine again that scored Towns second when he headed home a superb cross from Jordan Wood.
On Fifteen minutes Josh Walker scored the first of his four goals when he climbed above the Charnock defence to head home another superb cross this time from striker Tyler Atack and virtually from the restart Walker notched his second.
Fleetwood’s Fifth goal was easily the pick of the bunch and one that even had the opposition supporters applauding. Four first time volleys saw Walker free on the back post to head home.
It was then Tyler Atacks turn to get on the score sheet as he netted Towns sixth and seventh before Walker made it eight at half time.
In the second half Fleetwood were guilt of over playing occasionally and credit to Charnock Richard they remained up beat and continued to press forward. However  Towns keeper Joe Wheeler and the excellent back four marshalled by Alex Bethell were equally determined to keep a clean sheet.
Three goals in the second period by Atack Phillips and Wood moved Fleetwood safely into the next round.
After the game manager Mark Bowley said “ This was a very pleasing start to the season but we must not get carried away. The lads deserve the plaudits for the performance today but we all know its going to be a very hard season. We are delighted with the victory and the lads have now set a very high bench mark which we will be trying to achieve each week.
