Fleetwood Town gave a fielded a number of squad players on Monday evening, as the reserve team took on a Formby reserve team at Highbury Stadium. It was a strong line up and the game gave Danny Hurst his first competitive game, playing 90 minutes,  since suffering a serious shoulder injury at Crawley Town in August.

Nathan Pond played 45 minutes, following his loan spell at Kendal Town.  Simon Grand also featured following his loan spell at Mansfield Town.

Despite this strong line up, it was the visitors who took the lead as early as the 1st minute. Formby striker Joey Davies headed in unmarked from a corner.

However, Fleetwood soon put this setback behind them, with an excellent 25 yard strike courtesy of Danny Rowe. With parity restored, Town seized the initiative, When John Miles fired in from Peter Cavanagh’s excellent cross.

The home side were 4-1 before half time, after Wayne Curtis headed in from close range, and Danny Rowe then took on three players and coolly slotted home.

With the result seemingly settled, Town rang the changes for Fleetwood giving the chance for Ryan Tanser, Joe Camozzi and Jack Duggan to gain 45 minutes football.

The substitutions didn’t affect Town as the second half continue in the same commanding manner.

First, Connors tapped in from an uncleared free-kick on 75 minutes. Next it was time for the hard working Nick Rogan to finally get on the scoresheet, with goals in the 89th and 90th minute to give the score line some gloss.

All in all, it was a very positive night for Fleetwood and the Cod Army will be pleased to see the popular Hurst back to full fitness.  The keeper said; “My first competitive game back went very well. I was a spectator for the first half really, but had some saves to make in the second half. I’ve not suffered any reaction to the injury because I’ve been training well. I’m really pleased to be back.”

Hurst has been an unused substitute for the last two Blue Square Bet Premier games.
